The mix-up

Procreate, Chipboard, Plotters/Print, Rhino, PLA

The Mix-Up is a board game I designed with a group of RISD ID students. The purpose of the game is to challenge main stream games like Monopoly and Settlers of Catan, which instill competition among players while also normalizing capitalist and settler-colonial relations with the world. We were to challenge the systems in which public design projects are conducted and foster community and collaboration.

In The Mix-Up, you and your fellow scientists must gather elements and brew potions to secure your escape from a volatile laboratory. This cooperative game challenges you to complete potion cards while staying alert for infiltrators determined to sabotage your mission.

Your ultimate goal is to successfully concoct all potions before a Crisis card is drawn and cannot be resolved, which spells disaster for the lab. Victory goes to you and your fellow scientists (and Mad Alchemists) who complete the potions, while the Infiltrator wins by discreetly achieving their hidden mission. With unique roles and abilities, every player, including you, has a vital part to play. Will you escape the lab, or will chaos reign?
